My name is Julie Ann Porath, and it is my third year here at Crossroads Elementary. I have been a Social Worker in the district since November of 2002. I am going on my 14th year working in the school district.
I have one active little boy, who is in Pre-Kindergarten this year, who is the joy of my life. We also have two furry dogs named Daisy and Boswell. In my free time, I love spending time with my siblings, nieces and nephews, playing in the backyard, working out, sleeping, and traveling. As a Social Worker I am passionate about advocating for families and kids within the educational setting. I love to integrate sensory strategies and midfulness techniques in my work with kids.
School Social Workers provide a vital link among the school, home and community. Most School Social Workers are involved in providing services to all students. Most provide direct services to students and their families including casework, group work and classroom presentations as well as providing crisis intervention and consultation and making referrals to community agencies.
School Social Workers are part of the assessment process for special education students as well as often providing direct and indirect services to those students. School Social Workers consult with teachers and administrators and frequently participate on teams within the schools
