My name is Julie Baker.  I am  joining Crossroads Science Elementary, as I begin my 30th year of teaching in St. Paul Public Schools.  It took me mere moments into my first visit of our Crossroads School,  to recognize the extraordinary community within these walls!  I am deeply grateful to be a part of our 3-5 Science Team, as well as the greater school programs.

I have been fortunate to have taught all of the grades 1-6th during my career, with the bulk of my experience in grades 3-5th.  As a double major in Elementary Education and German,  I began my teaching career as a Fulbright Scholar, teaching in two different schools in Vienna, Austria.  After this, I dedicated the majority of my career to the Mounds Park School building, which housed the former World Cultures and Language Magnet School, and currently houses The American Indian Magnet School.  These experiences fostered my passion for the beautiful cultures of our world, environmental care and STEAM studies.

My husband and I are the proud parents of our three grown daughters.  Our eldest daughter is also a teacher, teaching Middle School Math and serving as Department Head  in Stockholm, Sweden.  Our middle daughter works in the ever important Environmental field, and lives in the metro.  Our youngest daughter is in her senior year of college, studying Psychology, and studying in Italy this year.  We have loved many adopted dogs as our family members, with our latest being called “Oliver.”

A few fun facts about me:  I am the youngest of ten children.  I love to bicycle, camp, hike, explore, learn, read, garden, swim, travel and visit my children &/or welcome them back home when they visit!

I look forward to being on your family’s team, to help your child to have their best third grade year of learning and growing as world citizens!  Make sure to reach out to me with any questions or concerns this year, since together we are better!
